–The American tenor returns to the Madrid opera house for seven performances of Bizet’s masterpiece in a season with a special Spanish focus that will also take him to Barcelona, Las Palmas, and Bilbao.
He has established himself as one of the most important tenors of his generation. Constantly expanding his repertoire, Michael Fabiano has already brought his voice to the most important temples of international opera, from the Metropolitan in New York to the San Francisco Opera, from the Opéra de Paris to the Royal Opera & Ballet in London, from the Teatro San Carlo in Naples to the Wiener Staatsoper. Spain has also been a significant destination in his career, and the Teatro Real in Madrid has held special importance in his schedule, a stage to which he has brought some of his most emblematic roles. This season confirms his idyll with Spanish opera houses: in addition to his Don José at the Teatro Real, he will also return to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where he will sing the role of Enzo in La Gioconda; he will debut at the Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to sing the title role in Verdi’s Otello for the first time; and he will also visit the ABAO Bilbao Opera season to step into the shoes of the poet protagonist of Giordano’s Andrea Chénier.
After starting the season as Calaf in Turandot and as Don José in New York, the American tenor will sing in Madrid for seven performances of Bizet’s masterpiece on December 11, 14, 17, 20, 27, and 30, and January 3. This is a new Teatro Real production in collaboration with the Royal Ballet and Opera of London and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Stage direction is by Damiano Michieletto, while Eun Sun Kim and Iñaki Encina will alternate on the podium, leading the Teatro Real’s Resident Chorus and Orchestra.
In addition to his performances in Spanish theatres, this season Michael Fabiano also has more performances of Carmen at the Met and of Verdi’s Otello at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, as well as his debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
