Spanish soprano Auxiliadora Toledano presents her album Dedicatoria (Cezanne Producciones), in which, accompanied on the piano by maestro Julio Alexis Muñoz, she offers a look at the Spanish art song focused on the Andalusian repertoire. Interpreted with passion and sensitivity, her approach to these jewels born from both Andalusian authors and other geniuses of the Spanish geography who were inspired by the exoticism of the Andalusian universe, constitute material especially dear to the singer.
The album brings together ten masterpieces of Spanish classical music, from the evocative melodies of Fernando Obradors and Gerónimo Giménez to innovative compositions by Manuel de Falla, Antón García Abril, Joaquín Turina, Jesús García Leoz or Miquel Ortega, who composed the song Se lo va diciendo el oro especially for the soprano, based on a poem by Juan Ramón Jiménez. “Dedicatoria is a song to my roots, a journey through the rich musical diversity of my country and the influence of Andalusian folklore and flamenco, a repertoire for which I have great respect. For me, it is a commitment to take on songs like these, which I have always admired,” confesses the performer. Recorded this same year, it includes pieces that set to music texts by great Andalusian poets such as Federico García Lorca, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, Juan Ramón Jiménez and Cristóbal de Castro, as well as the Asturian Ramón de Campoamor and the playwright from Zaragoza Julián Romea, who were inspired by the colors and people of Andalusia. Auxiliadora Toledano points out that these are universal works “to which I wanted to give a particular focus by interpreting them in Andalusian to reclaim the language as a fundamental element of identity and artistic expression.” They are jewels that invite you to discover the charm of Andalusian music and poetry, in a celebration that highlights the cultural heritage of the roots of Spanish music and its great influence on universal lyric art. With the support of the Sorigué Foundation, the soprano from Córdoba will present Dedicatoria on May 26, giving a recital in a place as special as the Palacio de Carlos V of the emblematic Alhambra in Granada, an especially inspiring space. The incomparable Arab citadel was the setting for the first Concurso de Cante Jondo, a visionary event organized by Manuel de Falla and Federico García Lorca with the aim of rescuing and promoting the purity and depth of flamenco; this initiative helped fuse popular tradition with artistic innovation, allowing Andalusian culture to open up to the world, transcending borders.
