The tenor Celso Albelo will launch APDP… en busca de la PAZ (APDP… in search of peace) on the 5th September at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna (Tenerife). The album includes popular songs from the Canary Islands and Latin America as well as songs written by the tenor himself, all entirely recorded during lockdown. The Spanish singer has taken various friends and travel companions along on his adventure, such as the other tenors Javier Camarena and Pancho Corujo, the soprano Blanca Valido and the singer and producer Sergio Núñez. Apart from the Mexican artist, all the others will appear alongside Albelo at the concert on the 5th.
APDP… en busca de la PAZ includes the popular songs that make up the soundtrack to Albelo’s life, with music from the Canary Islands as well as from Cuba, Argentina and Mexico, and a bolero from the Puerto Rican writer Pedro Flores, performed as a duet with Camarena. Released by Atlántida Music, the idea is to sell the album on vinyl, with five tracks on each side. “In these times of vertiginous speed, now slowed down by the pandemic, the idea of releasing it on vinyl invites us to enjoy the ritual of listening to music with the calm that the act deserves”, the tenor explains.
As well as a display of the singer’s art in opera, with the famous aria “Una furtiva lagrima” from Donizetti’s opera L’elisir d’amore, which is very much linked to Albelo’s international career, there is also space on the album for a song written by the singer himself, Linaje del Pago –composed in collaboration with Sergio Núñez and the tenor Juan Manuel Padrón–, which is dedicated to the winery of the same name located in El Sauzal (Tenerife), where Albelo is artistic director of the annual musical-culinary event “La Voz de Tinto”.
According to the singer, the idea and production of the album took place during the pandemic and was done exclusively by telephone, including the recording and the editing work. Celso Albelo extends thanks to his collaborators on the recording, as well as the winery Linaje del Pago and BMW Canaauto, companies that have sponsored APDP… en busca de la PAZ.
The new album will also be presented at concerts in various cities, on a tour of the Canary Islands and in other venues in Spain and abroad.
Among other engagements, in the 2020/2021 season Celso Albelo will return to the Teatro de La Zarzuela in Madrid for a recital, he will be Alfredo in La Traviata in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, he will make his debut at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo in Belisario alongside the Spanish singers Plácido Domingo and Davinia Rodríguez, conducted by the musical director of the event, Riccardo Frizza. The tenor will return to Ópera de Oviedo, this time as Nadir in Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles – which he recorded in the Teatro Verdi in Salerno for Brilliant Classics–, he will make his debut in the role of Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Opéra Royal de Liège Wallonie and will make his debut at the Verona Arena as Alfredo in La Traviata.
