– The Italian conductor returns to the the Donizetti Festival podium (Bergamo) for his second year as musical director of the event, where he will conduct the opening gala and an opera
The Bergamo Donizetti Festival (Italy) begins on the 14th November at the Teatro Sociale with the festival´s musical director in the podium, the Italian conductor Riccardo Frizza. He will be there after having opened the opera seasons in Paris (with Bellini´s I puritani) and Bilbao (with Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor). For the opening gala of the festival dedicated to the great and essential Gaetano Donizetti, which takes place in the town of his birth, Frizza will be in charge of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and the soloists Carmela Remigio, Marta Torbidoni, Konu Kim, Alessandro Corbelli and Florian Sempey. The programme ranges from Donizetti´s bel canto to composers such as Rossini, Verdi, Wagner, Auber and Thomás.
Later, on the 22nd and 24th November, Riccardo Frizza will lead performances of one of the Bergamo composer’s most important operas, Lucrezia Borgia, in a production directed by Andrea Bernard and with lead roles sung by Carmela Remigio, Xabier Anduaga, Varduhi Abrahamyan and Marko Mimica, among others.
Among other concerts and educational activities, the Bergamo Donizetti Festival will also include the performance of two little-known operas by the Italian composer, which are Pietro il Grande and the unfinished L’ange de Nisida.
When the festival is over, Riccardo Frizza will travel to the Lyric Opera in Chicago to conduct a concert of scenes from Donizetti´s Tudor Trilogy featuring the soprano Sondra Radvanovsky and he will return to the Opéra National de Paris, this time with Bellini’s Il Pirata with Sondra Radvanovsky, Michael Spyres and Ludovic Tézier.
