– The Spanish conductor will take the helm of a new production of Barbieri´s masterpiece
After conducting the RTVE Symphony Orchestra on the 1st March, for a programme of symphonic music by Rachmaninov and Elgar, the Spanish conductor José Miguel Pérez-Sierra will return to the Teatro de La Zarzuela in Madrid this March and April, this time to conduct a new production of El barberillo de Lavapiés, one of Francisco Barbieri´s most loved zarzuelas. Alfredo Sanzol, who has also adapted and updated Luis Mariano de Larra´s original libretto, will direct the production. Pérez-Sierra will conduct no fewer than 14 performances (on the 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st March and 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th April), there will be two different casts, who will be accompanied by the Community of Madrid Orchestra and the Teatro de La Zarzuela Choir.
Later, Pérez-Sierra will travel to the Opéra de Massy (France) to conduct the Verdi opera Rigoletto before continuing on to the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole (France) for Bizet´s Carmen, the Ópera Nacional de Chile for Rossini´s L’Italiana in Argeli and to the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania (Italy) for La Cenerentola, also by Rossini.
