The Spanish conductor José Miguel Pérez-Sierra will conduct Verdi´s masterpiece Rigoletto, one of the Italian composer´s most popular operas. The performances take place at the Opéra de Massy (France) on the 17th and 19th May, and is the elegant and acclaimed production by the Opéra de Monte-Carlo director, Jean-Louis Grinda, which Pérez-Sierra has conducted before. The Madrid-born conductor is one of the most highly regarded specialists in Romantic bel-canto and in opera repertoire in general. He is returning to Verdi after the successful performances of El barberillo de Lavapiés which he has just conducted at the Teatro de La Zarzuela in Madrid. There he celebrated 100 performances in the podium of this theatre in his city of birth while conducting the Vives zarzuela.
With May´s Rigoletto Pérez-Sierra is returning to a country, France, where he has developed a considerable part of his always ascending international career. In Massy he will take charge of a stunning international cast before continuing on his musical journey which will take him, in June, to the Opéra de Metz once again (also in France) to conduct Bizet´s Carmen, the most famous French opera. In the summer he is also expected, for another year, at the Wildbad Rossini Festival Rossini (Germany), where he will revisit Matilde di Shabran, ossia Bellezza e cuor di ferro, one of Rossini´s least-known operas. This will be in a new production, directed by the outstanding soprano Stefania Bonfadelli.
