– The diva from Madrid will end the season alongside the RTVE Orchestra and Choir and the Balearic Symphony
María José Montiel will bring the season to a close with performances of music by two of her favourite composers, Mahler and Parera Fons. This season Montiel has triumphed with Montsalvatge´s Cinco canciones negras at the Soria Autumn Music Festival, with the Soria Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Borja Quintas; with an opera gala alongside the Murcia Regional Orchestra conducted by Virginia Martínez; with recitals such as those in Torrelodones with the pianist Miquel Estelrich in Valencia as part of an event held by the Columbus Foundation – which she is an ambassador for – with the pianist Ramón Tebar and the cellist Ángel Luis Quintana; and her recital at the Teatro de La Zarzuela de Madrid in homage to the composer José Padilla with Rubén Fernández Aguirre on the piano. The Spanish mezzo-soprano also garnered great personal success with Verdi´s Requiem in Barcelona, alongside the Liceu Symphony Orchestra conducted by its musical director, Josep Pons, on her return to the Palau de la Música Catalana, as well as with a concert with soloists from the Orquesta de Valencia at the Palau de la Música in Valencia; with the impressive Five Neruda Songs, by Lieberson, which she sang in Lisbon with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexander Joel, and with Respighi´s Il Tramonto alongside the RTVE Orchestra and Choir conducted by Miguel Ángel Gómez Martinez.
María José Montiel begins the summer period with the Third Symphony by Mahler, a composer who she really identifies with, various of his masterpieces being included in her repertoire. She will perform the Third Symphony alongside the RTVE Orchestra and Choir at the San Juan de la Cruz Hospital in Úbeda (5th July) and at the El Escorial theatre auditorium (7th July). Later she will return to Majorca to participate in the world premiere of Nanas, by the Balearic composer Antoni Parera Fons, programmed by the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Mielgo in a musical evening in which the singer will also perform opera arias and zarzuela romanzas which will take place Bellver Castle in Palma (19th July) as part of the Estius Simfònics concert cycle. The same musicians will perform a very similar programme at the Concert de la Lluna a les Vinyes (Vineyard Moon Concert) which will take place on the 21st July at the Macià Batle winery in Santa Maria del Camí, also in Majorca.
