– The Spanish diva will perform in Miami, Manacor and Barcelona in January and February
The Spanish mezzo-soprano María José Montiel, who won the 2015 National Music Prize, continues with her international engagements. These will take her to the United States at the end of January, to give a recital in the Opera Stars Concert cycle at Naples Opera in Miami (Florida), in which she will sing a wide repertoire of Spanish song and French mélodie – also including pieces by Brazilian composers– accompanied on the piano by the theatre´s artistic director, the conductor Ramón Tebar. The date for the concert is the 31st January, when the Madrid-born singer will once again meet the Florida music-lovers who applauded her last season when she took the title role in Bizet´s Carmen, one of the roles that has brought her fame all around the world.
Immediately afterwards, María José Montiel will travel to the heart of the island of Majorca to give a concert in homage to the Majorcan painter and sculptor Joan Riera Ferrari, who died in May last year. The concert will take place on the 4th February at the splendid Manacor Auditorium. Montiel will be accompanied by the pianist Miquel Estelrich, an artistic accomplice with whom she has given recitals on various occasions and who is especially known for his work in reviving and disemminating Balearic composers´ work.
Also in February (on the 20th), the Spanish mezzo will return to the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona to sing in Giuseppe Verdi´s Requiem Mass alongside the Gran Teatre del Liceu´s Symphonic Orchestra and Choir, conducted by their head, the maestro Josep Pons. On this evening the ensembles belonging to the city´s opera house will be performing in the modernist auditorium as part of the BCN Clàssics programme, which is based at the Palau.
Later on this season María José Montiel will have performances in Tenerife, Madrid, Valencia and Lisboa, among other engagements.
